I did it!

Okay, I bit the bullet and finally ordered a Kindle!!!! I've been putting off the decision for over a year as I researched all the different ereaders and the pros and cons of all the ebook sites. I know that everyone has their own favorites and that there's a lot of people out there who have a problem with Amazon, but it finally came to a point where I had to just make the decision. I'll let you know after I receive it my own personal opinion (which is worth about a penny) but for now I'm just excited. I'll never get over my love of holding a book in my hand or having my house filled with bookshelves, but technology moves on and I want to be a part of it :)

Hope all is well,
Alex

Oooo! I am so excited for you. Keep us posted on what you think about it. I am wanting to get one, but have the same issue. There is something comforting about going back to visit my books on the shelves.

You know it's just come to a point where I have to do something...I have so many books I either go digital or have to build on another room :)

Yes, please keep us posted on how you like it... It must be an issue with everyone (or at least eveyone I know) that they don't want to give up the books... and I not sure if it is worth the money. So, please if you do not mind, keep us posted!

But I am excited for that you have a new toy!!!

I've recently discovered ebooks as it can be easier to read on the train if I have my laptop with me already (books can sometimes be bulky), but I'm not sure I am ready to give up my hard copies just yet.

I am very interested to hear what you think!

I've been considering taking the plunge and getting one too. I'm anxious to know how you like it. I wish they came scented so you could still get the smell of the paper and ink :).

My biggest concern is that I live in the middle of nowhere (literally :) but before I bought it Amazon promised that I could download without problems, so we'll see. My biggest hope is that I can change the font...when you get old like me then you need to be able to make the words BIGGGGGG!

Alex,
You are going to love your Kindle.
You can absolutely change the font, it has a built in dictionary, the only down side to mine is that I still need a booklight if I want to read in the dark in bed. It is the best electronic purchase I have ever made. If you get cell phone service where you live you should have no problem downloading your books. Have fun with it.

My friend was showing me her Kindle last week and I almost didn't give it back to her. It was the size of your average paperback & I'm blind so I had to increase the font but it was easily readable. That being said the geek/nerd in me just loves to be surrounded by books. The problem is that my house is being overrun with them. If I love a book I go back to re-read it time and time again so the result is that I never throw books away and I'm awash in a sea of books! I've hinted at the hubby and kids that I want a Kindle for my b-day in December. If they don't get one for me then I'll probably get one for myself! Let us know Deborah about the pros and cons please :cD

I've actually trained my husband to just let me go and buy my own mother's day presents :) It takes the pressure off him and I'm always happy! Oy, I can't wait.

Too funny Deborah! I'm the one with the Scottish ancestry but my hubby has the attitude. Let's just say that he's the "thrifty" one in the family. As my Scottish granddad used to say about him "if he gets hold of a dollar, by G-d it's a prisoner!" I think I may actually succeed in getting a Kindle anyway because he's intrigued by being able to rescue his home from the book chaos. Can't wait to get my Kindle!
