Good News

Just discovered that DARKNESS EVERLASTING has been nominated as a RT Choice Award for best vampire novel of 2008...what a fabulous way to start the New Year!!

I hope everyone enjoyed your Christmas. Mine was wonderful, except for the weather, I swear it went from below zero to sixty degrees in the course of one day...we had an ice storm one morning and then a thunderstorm the next night. Crazy :( Santa was very good to me and best of all the family all got together. We still have one more Christmas dinner (my poor waistline) and then it's on to a new year!

So tell me, what was your favorite gift this year??

Ice, ice everywhere

Yes, we were hit by the ice storm that hit the Midwest which means we’ve been without electricity off and on for the past two days…I don’t think there’s anything worse L I can’t get out to go anywhere, I can’t depend that the computer isn’t going to go out any minute…heck, I can’t even go to the bathroom without taking a candle just in case! I HATE winter.
I’ve also been informed by several very helpful readers who have pointed out a number of piracy sites where my books are being downloaded for free…sigh. I’m not sure if the people who do this don’t think an author should earn a living at her or his chosen career or if they are just the sort who don’t mind breaking the law, but what truly outrages me is the insult to other readers. Do they think that they are better than those people who spend their hard earned money on a book? Do they think they are somehow special to not only steal from the author but to hand around their stolen booty to their friends? To my mind it’s no different from shoplifting or lifting the wallet from my purse. All I know is that these sites threaten the very books they supposedly loved. Do they truly think that when an author can no longer make a living writing books they will continue to do so? They threaten all readers with losing their favorite authors.
I’d like to hear your opinion (even if it’s different from my own J) Perhaps some readers have a different take on the piracy sites!

It's Monday

Hello to all from a very icy Missouri :) We didn't get the terrible ice that hit the upper midwest and northeast but it's enough to close schools and keep me from daring the roads...not that I mind being iced in...maybe this way I will keep my nose to the grindstone and get some much needed work done (hey, a girl can hope!). I do hope that your weather is much better than mine and that you're finishing up the last of your xmas shopping. This year I am doing something different. Instead of the traditional turkey or ham, I'm thinking of doing prime rib (my side of the family is very, very small or I'd never be able to afford it :) Of course now that I've had my stroke of brilliance I'm still deciding what to have with it...pretty much the traditional menu is out the window.

I was wondering what food you love to have for Christmas...for me, the one thing I won't compromise on is sugar cookies...I'm insanely addicted to them and only allow myself to have them at Christmas because I can't stop eating them. Do you have a favorite dish???

Ho, ho, ho to all,
Alex

Hello to all! I'm sorry I' ve disappeared but I've been hard at work finishing up my regency historical (the research always takes more time than the writing) and filling out my outline for the next Guardian book. Of course, I also had a full house during Thanksgiving so I fell behind on just about everything :( I am about done with my Christmas shopping which is a plus, but my house...yikes. To be honest I HATE housework. My mother is fabulous. You can't walk into her house and find one thing out of place and she always has a freezer full of food so a dozen people could just show up and she would have a meal on the table in less than an hour. Me...not so much :) The bane of my existence is vacuuming. What about you? Do you hate or love housework. What's your least favorite?

Hope all is well,
Alex

Economy

Economy
I know that far too many people are suffering from the economy...or are afraid that they soon might be. I've decided to cut back on my holiday spending and because of gas prices I've certainly cut back on my driving, but I was wondering if you've found yourself cutting back on buying books?
There's one theory that says people are more likely to buy books than spend money on going out to eat or to a movie, sometime even in preference of an expensive vacation. I just wondered what you all thought.
Is this economy hurting books?
Hope all is well,
Alex

I'm Back

Hello to all! As you can see I have a new blog...the last one was incompatable (or something like that :) with my new host, so please be patient...I'm a complete dunce when it comes to technology and I'm bound to do a lot of screwing up before I get it right! I hope that this will be easier for everyone and that you'll still join in on the conversation :)

First I want to give a huge thank you to everyone who sent their well wishes for my mother, she's doing much better and every day that passes she's able to get around better. Another positive is that I finished the outline for Salvatore's story, so I hope you all will enjoy!

Have you all started your xmas shopping? I've picked up a few things, but I keep thinking that the sales will be starting closer to the holiday. I know many are cutting back, (as am I), but for once I intend to get my xmas cards out at a decent date (hysterical laughter!).

Take care,
Alex
