The beautiful Were Cassandra must be protected from The Dark Lord. She is the prophet and gets visions that predict the future and fate of the world. Caine, a cur who was killed by The Dark Lord and turned into a pureblooded Were, believes it's his destiny to protect Cassie. Cassie is naive and vulnerable, but she is also strong-willed. Caine tries to keep his distance from Cassie even though he truly believes she is his mate. Cassie knows what she wants and it's for Caine to seduce her. So if he won't do it, she'll have to take matters into her own hands.
Cassie and Caine run into danger at every turn as they follow her visions. As the enemy gets closer and closer to erupting out of his dimension and causing chaos in the world, Cassie and Caine find themselves in the presence of The Dark Lord once again. Caine tangles with the evil lord and is trapped in his wolf form and madness overtakes him. Cassie is determined to stop The Dark Lord and get help for Caine and have him returned to her.
I am still reeling from reading Fear the Darkness, the ninth installment in theGuardians of Eternity series by Alexandra Ivy. This book follows Cassie and Caine's journey through a lot of danger, hard times, and adventure. Ms. Ivywrites an exciting book full of ups and downs, twists and turns, and high emotions. There is a lot going on in this book, and I had a hard time putting it down. I was immediately drawn into the story on page one and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. The world building is fantastic; Ms. Ivy’s attention to all the details in the plot is outstanding. All the characters are written with a lot of dimension and depth that add to the overall story line.
I loved Caine, he was so very tortured by everything that happened to him in his past. I could almost feel his pain. Caine might have been a bad guy before, but now that he's protecting Cassie, he's fighting for the good. I cried when Caine went mad and wasn't expected to come out of it. I liked Cassie very much; she was willful, strong, and vulnerable all at the same time. Her character was very easy to connect with. The sex scenes between Cassie and Caine had me taking a lot of cold showers.
Ms. Ivy creates the best villains ever. Gaius is the bad guy everyone loves to hate. But if you stop and really think about all that he has done, it's for the promise that the love of his life will be returned to him. Gaius does many, many things that are terrible and unforgivable, I wanted him to be stopped and for him to be hurt. The evil characters in Fear the Darkness were always a step ahead of the good guys; I will have to admit that the ending of the book really took me by surprise, not at all what I expected. I hope that will be addressed in the next book.
Fear the Darkness is an awesome read, so you should pick up a copy and read it today.
